Shinning Stars!!!

Good Day!
This week I choose the years first Shinning Star.  Every other week from now till the end of the school year I will choose a student to be the Shinning Star.  They will have a poster to work on about themselves and then present that poster to the class the following week. A shinning star student is someone who is responsible, shows effort and has good manners in class.  I have spoken to the class about these expectations, I look forward to getting to know more about your children through this process.

We continued to work on making inferences this week.  In class we looked at some amazing Norman Rockwell pictures, we used the clues from the pictures and what we already know in our minds to help make inferences about these paintings.  The kids thought they were so funny and had some amazing inferences.

Our small moment stories are just about done.  Today those that have finished sat in the author chair (the rocking chair) and read their book to the class.  Next week we will discuss how to spice up our writing and begin to look at some many moment stories that Angela Johnson has written.

We finished up Unit 6 in math.  Please practice math facts with your child, we will take our next addition and subtraction test before the end of the month.  On the WHES web site their are some links to math fact games they your child could practice with at home.

In Science we continued to explore the properties of solids.  This week we tested if they can be stacked and if they can roll.  We also tested how far different solids can roll.  The class loves this science unit.

Today we discussed MLK and we will continue to learn more about him next week as well.  Remember that there is no school on Monday due the the holiday!

Have a fabulous weekend!
