This week during literacy we discussed "How the earth changes?". Student had the opportunity to read several informational text that discussed ways in which the earth changes. The topics included erosion, earthquakes, volcanoes, glaciers and wildfires. Ask them their thoughts on this topic, they each had to write about this question and include examples of it from our readings. We are really focusing a lot of time and effort into re-reading and finding information and answers with in the text that we read. This is difficult but I'm happy with the progress I see, considering we only started this new program last week.
The students are doing fantastic with the new spelling words. The words and patterns that they study are being used every day in what they read or during an activity.
I'm sure you saw the math fact scores from this month. WOW!!! The students are really improving. Don't forget to practice fact triangles or use one of the online math games from the schools website for practice.
Currently the students are working on fictional narratives. Some student have revised and re-written good copies, while others are still working on their drafts. These stories are so fun to read. They should be available for Best of Heights Nights.
When we return from the break we will finish up unit 10 in math. The final two units are all review of the skills we learned in Second Grade. I can't believe I'm already talking about the final two units, the year is flying bye.
In Social Studies we will continue to explore communities and take a look at the City of San Francisco and how it has changed over the years. We will start a unit on Rain Forest also for science.
Hope you have a wonderful break!!!
