Today the students have an assembly to introduce our newest "Humphrey" book. This second half of the school year we will again meet with our 6th grade book buddies for activities pertaining to our new one school on book program. The 2nd graders love seeing their 6th grade buddies. It has been a great experience.
We began Unit 4 in our Literacy Program today. This unit has to do with how the different environments that make up the world make it such an interesting place. Today we learned the US has 7 different regions. We also read an article about Alaska and it's unique features. The students were amazed that some parts of Alaska have 60 days of darkness in the winter and 80 days of daylight in the summer.
In Science we have continued to test our groups of solids by properties. Next week we will look at a few new solids and hopefully get start to discuss liquids.
In math we have been working on my addition and subtraction strategies. We really are trying to get the kids to use mental math when possible. Next week we will get into some measuring.
This week Mrs. Fletcher was in giving us a great guidance lesson about honesty. She discussed with the students about how honesty is always a good policy especially when you've done something wrong instead of hiding from it. They talked about how the consequences are often less severe if you are upfront and honest about a mistake you have made. This is a great life lesson.
Today the students were given a pre-test for spelling. They will have the test for these words next Thursday the 13th. Just a reminder that we will have a Valentine Day celebration next Thursday too! Thursday is a 12:45 dismissal day and Friday and Monday we have off for the Presidents Weekend!
Have a wonderful weekend! Hopefully no snow in the forecast! Finger Crossed!
