Fire Prevention Week

Hello Families,
This week the students were very excited to meet our local fire fighters and have the opportunity to look at a fire truck close up.  The Woodbury Heights Fire Department did a fantastic job telling students what to expect if a fire were to  happen at home.  A huge thank-you to them for their time and the goody bags.

In Literacy this week we read several non-fiction pieces of text.  They were narrative non-fiction pieces about caring for animals.  We used the strategy ask and answer questions to help us better understand the text that we read.  Also we discussed the importance of pictures and their captions.

We continue to work on writing personal narratives.  Our mini lessons have included discussing watermelon topics and seed topics, ask your child what that means.  We are also working on hooking our readers in with a good lead.

In Science we make twirly birds and took them outside to see how they spin and fly.  The kids really enjoyed this experiment.

In Social Studies we discussed the advantages and disadvantages of living in an Urban, Rural and Suburban communities.  We took a pole and most of the students want to live in suburban communities when they grown up.  We also read about Christopher Columbus.

Have a wonderful long weekend!!!
