This week we meet with our 6th grade book buddies to decorate Humphrey for a costume contest. The 2nd Grade and 6th Grade did an amazing job, they really work so well together. The 2nd graders really look forward to seeing their buddies. Here are a few pictures of our Humphrey's including the 3 contest winners. Great job!
In Spanish this week the student learned about the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead. They made these cute skulls with Senora.
In Literacy we are reading Fables. We have learned that fables are stories in which animals teach a lesson. We read "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" and learned that others do not believe those who lie. Along with the fables we explored how they each have a problem and what the steps are to the solution of that problem. We will continue with the fables next week.
This week in Math we worked with making change and telling time. We also had an exploration day in which we used the base ten blocks to build numbers, made clocks and drew the hands on for times, and used geoboards to make shapes. Today I gave a timed addition and subtraction practice, I'm impressed with the improvement I've seen. However, please keep using those math triangles at home, we still need a lot of practice.
In Science we designed together as a class a runway in which we connected several runways and had to adjust to get a marble to the end. The students really understand that in order to get the marble to the end the runway must start the runway high. We added loops, twists, turns, and hills to our runways. Each child helped it was a lot of fun!
Have a wonderful weekend!!
