Routine! Routine! Routine!

This week has been all about learning routines!  Students have a done a fantastic job of coming in unpacking, making a lunch choice, putting their homework in the basket and starting their morning work.  We worked on our first round of Map Testing this week.  This data will help me understand your child's abilities and help in establishing learning groups for reading and math.

We jumped right into our Math lessons this week.  In Math we begin the lesson with a solve and share, students try to solve a problem and we discuss.  We then move onto our visual learning, this is an interactive video that teaches the day's concept.  We stop to solve and discuss through out.  After this whole group instruction we break up into 3 groups.  One group will be working with me on independent problems.  This really gives me the time to see where children and being successful and where they may struggle.  Another group uses their chrome book to do a quick check, which is 5 problems that pertain to the days lessons.  Then they will practice addition and subtraction on xtra math.  The 3rd group play math games that have to do with the skills we are working on.  Every child will rotate through these 3 groups during our math block.  I will circle the math problems that your child will do for homework on their paper.

In Literacy this week our essential question was "How do friends depend on each other?".  We read 3 different stories over the course of the week about friend ship.  We discussed these stories and identified the important details.  Students also listened to the authors words to help them form a picture or visualize what was happening in their minds.  Here are a few pictures of the stories we read.
In Social Studies we started to discuss communities.  We learn a catchy song about what people do in communities.  Ask you child if they remember.

Have a wonderful weekend!!
