I hope you are all staying warm! We started a new big book Westward To Oregon, it is historical fiction. The kids love this book it is about a family that is traveling the Oregon Trail. The family encounters a problem. Ask your children about the book and the characters. Next week we will really focus on the characters and their traits.
In writing this week we made 'chicken soup'. We discussed the ingredients that make chicken soup and then applied them to our writing.
Chicken Soup
- Chicken - Capitol Letters (Every sentence should start with a capitol.)
- Broth - Punctuation (Every sentence ends with a period, exclamation point or question mark.)
- Celery - (Title)
- Onions - (Spaces between words.)
- Carrots - (Details)
- Salt & Pepper - (Dialog/ Quotations, not to much or you'll ruin the recipe.)
- Noodles - (Good Beginnings)
In math this week we made compliments of ten and added 3 two digit numbers. We also took our January timed test for addition and subtraction, they will come home one day next week. I'm really impressed with the improvements that have been made.
Science we continued studying our set of solids. We tested hardness and sorted the solids according to how hard they are. Today we tested our solids by if they sink or float. This got a little messy with the water, but it really made the kids thing about why some items floated and some sank.
We continued to discuss MLK this week and wrote about our own dreams. They are hanging in the hallway, I'll save them for you to see at the Best Of Heights Night this spring.
Have a fantastic weekend!
