This week the children were so excited about working with Ernie & Neal. They wrote a really cute song about camping with Ernie & Neal. Tonight is the big concert, it should really be a fun and exciting event! The kids think of Ernie & Neal as celebrities, and they are funny and talented gentlemen! You won't be disappointed by their show. I only wish I could make it, but I've got a prior commitment.
In Language Arts this week we have really focused on character traits. We distinguished between outside traits and Inside trait. The students learned that great readers look for character traits through the characters action and dialogue. We also applied this to ourselves and really thought about our own character traits. We made posters with a cutout of face and wrote our own traits around the poster. I took pictures of them which I will display at Best Of Height Night this spring, they are so cute!
Many of the little reading groups are working on literature circles. The students are assigned a chapter or two to read in a book, each child from the group has a job to do for that reading. After they students have read and completed their job we come together to discuss what we have read. It is a fun way to think about our reading.
We had a fun time in math this week. We worked on our measuring skills, by measuring our arm span and how far we could long jump. Each child had the opportunity to measure using inches and centimeters. They loved getting to jump around! We then took that data and used it to find the median, the mode, the range and to compile it into a bar graph. It was a lot of work!
In Science the students tested their solids with magnets. The students then had the opportunity to sort their solids by any property they wished for a partner. That partner then had to use their knowledge to guess the property by which the solid was sorted. In Social Studies we started to discuss service occupations.
Next week we will begin working on our President reports. This will combine Social Studies and Writing. Have a great weekend!!
