First Day Jitters.....

It was a wonderful first two days of school.  I am so happy to now have faces and names put together.  All the children seemed excited about the start of the new school year.  These first two days had a lot to do with establishing routines and setting the expectation for the school year.  Yesterday we read a great book called "The First Day Jitters" and we all talked about how we had a hard time sleeping Wednesday night and that we each had butterflies.  During snack we all had some jitter juice (it was just sparking juice) to help settle our jitters.

Today we talked about be a bucket fillers and a bucket dippers.  Many of the classrooms referred to these terms last year as well.  We read a fantastic book called "How Full is your Bucket?", in the book a little boy learns about how being helpful and nice fills your bucket and makes you feel good about yourself and makes other feel good too.  An example of a bucket filler might be complementing someone.  An example of a bucket dipper would be making fun of someone one.  I'll talk more to you at back to school night next week about this.

Another fun activity we had today was that we meet our book buddies.  As a whole school our theme "Soaring to New Heights....Reading".  Grades K-6 meet in the multi-purpose room to discuss our theme for the year.  Each class is paired with another class to meet a few times a month as book buddies.  Our buddies are Mrs. Sharrow's 6th graders.  The 6th graders made paper airplanes and wrote their names on them.  They threw the planes and the 2nd graders picked one up and found that person who will now be their buddy all year.  The kids introduced themselves then they found a nice comfy spot outside and read to each other for about 10 minutes.  Both the 2nd graders and 6th graders seemed to enjoy this experience.

I look forward to seeing you all at back to school night next week.  Have a wonderful weekend!
