BRRRRR!

Wow, we really are having a bitter cold winter.  With the snow this week and the holiday on Monday, it was difficult to accomplish much.  I'm hoping for a full week of school next week.  Hopefully no more snow days will be needed this year!!!

The students were so excited to start multiplication this week.  We have approached it by simply making equal groups.  All the students seemed to catch on to this concept so far.  We will continue to work a bit more with multiplication and introduce the concept of division by sharing equal groups.  We will finish up unit 6 next week.

In Literacy we have been working a lot on key details and main idea.  The past two weeks we have read several stories in which I modeled how to find important details and main idea, along with students trying this on their own.  This is a difficult task for many.  Next week we will continue to work with this concept.

Due to the short week the students did not have their spelling test today.  They will have it on Tuesday.

In Social Studies we are exploring how products are manufactured and then how they get to stores.  We did an activity this week in which the students worked on an assembly line.  Each child had a job on the line.  This was a great visual for students.  Next week we will explore how those products get from the factories to the stores.

We will continue to explore solids next week.  Due to the short week we did not get to our planned lesson this week.

Hope that you all stay warm this weekend!!
