100th Day!!

We finally celebrated the 100th day of school on Monday.  It is so late this year do to all the snow days.  Fingers crossed that they are behind us.  I used an app called Aging Booth and aged all of the kids, they are so funny.  They roared with laughter when I showed them what they might look like at 100.  The kids completed a piece of write about the things they they think they will and will not be doing at the age of 100.  They are super funny!  Their pictures and writings are hanging in the hallway, I'll hold on to them for Best of Heights Night, you will love them

This week our essential question was "How are kids around the world different?"  We read several stories about children from about the world.  It was fun comparing our lives to those of others.  We learned that in Japan they have shoes for outside and inside shoes.  One of the reading groups learned that kids in Italy only go to school until 1:30, but they also go to school on Saturday's.  I don't think they liked the idea of school on Saturday's.  Another group read about kids in India and how they wear uniforms and eat really spicy food.

This week in math we learned all about fractions.  We started by making equal parts of a shape.  From their we learned about the fractional parts the denominator and the numerator.  We then explored equal fractions with fraction cards.

In Science we continued to explore liquids this week.  We observed four liquids this week water, glue, oil, and shampoo.  The groups felt the liquids and placed drops of the liquids onto wax paper to see how fast they spread.  We discussed how the slow moving liquids are viscous and the fast spreading liquids are fluid.  On another day students observed the flow of the liquids in plastic zip bags. We then compared these liquids to one another.

The book reports look amazing!!  I can't wait to read each of them this weekend.  Fingers crossed that this storm I'm hearing about turns out to be nothing on Monday.

Stay warm and have a great weekend!
