Finally Valentine's Day.....

The kids are very excited to finally celebrate Valentine's Day today.  Let's keep our fingers crossed that we are done with the snow and ice for the rest of the winter.  The students are longing for spring and want to get outside, me too!!!  Here is a picture of the bags we made for our Valentine's.
This week our essential question for Literacy was "How does the Earth change?"  We read and discussed many possible ways that can cause changes in the Earth.  Our reading included pieces about erosion, volcano's, earthquakes, tsunamis and wild fires.  We focused a lot on cause and effect.  We are really working hard on writing response about the pieces that we read.  I feel this is an area that we need to work on when it comes to testing.  So we will be doing a lot more writing about what we read. Here is a picture of a cause and effect poster I made this week.
We are working on writing narrative fiction.  But before we start our stories we have been discussing BOLD BEGINNINGS and how to hook a reader in.  We are also working hard on developing a character before we start our story.  The students are working on a packet which helps them think about a character and what her or she will be like.  They are thinking about what that character will look like and their likes and dislikes.  Today they are working on who the characters family and friends are.  Here is a picture of some students working on this.
In Science we have moved onto the liquids investigation of solid and liquids.  I hope we don't get the classroom to messy with these experiments.

**REMINDER**  BOOK REPORTS ARE DUE NEXT FRIDAY THE 28TH!  I can't wait to see them!

Have a wonderful weekend!
