As you can tell from this weeks math homework we worked a lot this week on measuring. We discussed both the US customary units of measurements and the Metric system. We are working on understanding how many inches are in a foot and a yard. Also how many centimeter and decimeters are in a meter. The kids had practice measuring our classroom and objects throughout the room.
In Literacy this week our essential question was "What excites us about nature?" we read mostly poems about nature. We talked about how the authors used similes to help us form a picture in our head. In our little groups we read fictional stories in which the character discovered something new that they enjoy about nature.
In Science we are wrapping up solids and liquids, we should finish this next week and move onto discussing gases for a few lessons. This week the students were introduced to two new liquids and in a small group they observed and tested the properties of these liquids.
In Social Studies we discussed wise shopping habits. We played a game in which students were given a shopping situation and they had to tell us if the shopper made a wise or unwise shopping choice. Let's hope that they are wise shoppers for the rest of their lives, I know I sometimes struggle with being a wise shopper. We also read a scholastic news about Ireland and discussed St. Patrick's Day. Earlier this week we decorated the room with pots of gold. Now if I could only find that real pot of gold.! Here are a few pictures.
If you have not already signed and returned the class trip permission slip, please return that as soon as possible. Enjoy the weekend!
