Rock NJ ASK!!

This week our essential question was "How do myths help us understand?".  We read several myths including one about  a Fir tree, this myth explains why evergreens are green all year.  Ask you child if they remember the theme of this story. Theme is the message or lesson from the story.  In this story fir tree wants to be like his friends and loose his leaves in the fall but he comes to understand that having leaves all year is important because he provides shelter for other creatures in the winter.  Fir tree realizes that being different is okay.

In math we continued to work with multiplication.  The kids really like learning multiplication.  We also dabbled in division.  This of course is a bit more difficult.  They will learn much more about division in 3rd grade.

In Science we are making rainforest posters.  The students are working in pairs to create a poster that reflects the four layers of the rainforest.  Next week we will add animals of the rainforest to the poster.  This week we began researching animals from the rainforest.  Each student was assigned an animal to research and write a report on.  We will continue to work on these next week.

Next week begins the first week of NJ ASK testing.  Today in effort give the students a sense of support and to encourage them to do their best we held a pep rally.  The cheerleaders attended and preformed cheers. Mrs. Gansert spoke about testing and some tips to prepare.  A group of teachers wrote and performed "Let It Go"  the NJ Ask version, which was viewed by all students.  It was a great way to cheer our students on.  The teachers even painted their faces for the pep rally here are a few selfies of my face paint.

Have a wonderful weekend!!!
