Taylor Town

Hello Families!!!
This week we planned and created 'Taylor Town' in Social Studies.  The students brainstormed places were people live, work and play.  Each student drew at least one place to live, work and play to add to our town.  We acted as town planners and first discussed were we should put businesses and places to live.  We decided that our town had a main street in which most of the businesses would be placed. We then picked out spots for neighborhoods.  Finally, we added places like parks were we felt they should go.  Here is a picture of 'Taylor Town'

Our essential question in literacy this week was "How do friends depend on each other?".  We heard a story called 'The New Kid', it was about a new student to a school.  In the story the character Jade helped Lucy on the first day of school.  The other story we read was call "Little Flap and Friends" this story was a about three baby birds who were learning to fly.  They helped each other in this process. Today the students worked in small groups to make a poster about how they depend on their friends.  Here are a few pictures.

During Science this week we continued to balance objects.  The students were amazed at how they could get a pencil to balance on its tip and a cup to balance on a string.  The kids really love discovering these tricks.  Ask them this weekend what balance point means and were counterweight usually goes in order to balance an object.

I'm sure you will hear your child talk about the book that I am reading to them by Roald Dahl called "The Witches".  Mrs. Wells and I read this book every year, it is so much fun!  I told them this was a piece of fiction and they all know that means it is made up.  But every year some of them believe that I'm a Witch, maybe due to the fact that I don't confirm nor deny it.

Have a great weekend!!!!
