This week our essential question was "How are families around the world the same and different?" We realized that even though people around the world are very different we are alike in many ways. Our read aloud was about a boy named Tommy eating dinner at his friend Alejandro's house. Tommy learned that since Alejandro's family was from Argentina they ate different foods then he was used to at his house. Tommy was nervous about trying new foods but it turns out he liked all the foods by themselves they were just cooked together in a dish he never had. We also read the story of the "The Big Red Lollipop" in which an immigrant family is learning the customs of America. This story was great because it showed us that no matter where you are from in the world you still have the same issues with siblings. The kids were really able to relate to these stories.

Since Fall officially began this week, we wrote narratives about the things that we like about fall. First, we brainstormed all the things that we like to do in fall as a whole group. We used graphic organizers to organizer our paragraph and then wrote and illustrated these pieces. Take a look at them on Thursday at Back to School night. They worked really hard.
Science was very exciting this week. We moved on to talking about motion. The students were given disks and straws to create tops. They loved making the tops and watching them spin. We will continue with motion next week.
Looks like a beautiful weekend, enjoy!!!
