It was a pleasure meeting you all last night. I enjoyed seeing so many familiar faces and am looking forward to getting to the new faces. We are off to a great start this year!! I hope I was able to give you an idea of what to expect throughout the year. Please feel free to contact me at anytime.
In LAL this week we read about pet's and how they can be important friends. Today as a wrap up activity the students made posters about a pet and why they would be such a good friend. Here are a few pictures of their works in progress.
In math this week we focused a lot on word problems. We also are working on writing and spelling the words that represent a number. For example: seven, twenty-five, or two hundred thirty-six. This is a difficult skill and we will revisit it often. The students have also been working with base ten blocks this week. Today we had a math game day in which 3 stations were set up. One station was the money exchange game in which students roll a die to determine how much money they can take from the bank. Once they have $10 they must exchange it for a ten dollar bill. The first person able to exchange for a hundred dollar bill is the winner. Our 2nd station was addition top it. The third was writing numbers using base ten blocks in expanded form.
In science this week we made spinning tops and zoomers. Ask your child about these fun activities and what type of force they need to move. Next week we will make twirlers.
We continued to learn about Urban, Suburban, and Rural communities during Social Studies this week. Today the students are making a pop up Urban community. I'll post some pictures next week since these are currently a work in progress.
Next week is "Week of Respect" you will be receiving a flyer about the events. Her is a quick look at what to expect.
Monday - "Ban together against bullying" bands will be given to each child on Monday.
Tuesday - Wear a team jersey & "Be a part of our team against bullying".
Wednesday - Wear a hat/cap & "Put a cap on bullying behavior".
Thursday - Wear sneakers & "Sneak' in a random act of kindness today"
Friday - Bring you favorite stuffed animal & "Show that you're a buddy, not a bully".
