Shadow!!!

Our classroom was a very exciting place this week!  We have a visitor for the month of October named Shadow.  Shadow is bat who sleeps in our classroom all day.  He writes letters to us each day and this has given us the opportunity to practice writing friendly letters back to him.  Sometimes he is a bit naughty and leaves the letters all over our room.  His twin brother is visiting Mrs. Wells class, I guess they have the run of the school at night.  Here is a picture of Shadow.
Since this week was "Week of Respect"  we read a story called "The Ugly Pumpkin".  In this story a pumpkin is treated differently then all the other pumpkins cause he is different.  This turned into a great discussion with the kids about how we should treat others.  The students then wrote about a time they felt squashed by the way someone treated them and designed their own 'Ugly Pumpkin'.

During Science this week we observed how twirlers spin.  It was a beautiful afternoon yesterday so we where able to conduct the experiment outside.  The wind was perfect and really allowed our twirlers to fly.  Here are some pictures.

As promised last week, here are a few pictures of the Urban communities that we made last Friday.  They really turned out great!!

Don't forget that Monday is Columbus Day and school is closed!  Enjoy the long weekend.  I'm hoping that the weather will improve!!  Have a great weekend!!
