Happy Holidays!

This last full week of school before the break has been very busy.  Our elf snowflake has traveled a lot this week.  He visited Mexico, USA, and Sweden this week. Our craft from Mexico was making poinsetta's, they are a common Christmas decoration in Mexico. In Sweden they celebrate St. Lucia. We learned about many interesting traditions in these countries. Of course we already knew a lot about the good old U.S.A..  Here are some pictures of the crafts we made.

In math we are moving onto 2-digit addition.  This can be a difficult concept for many students.  So far the class has done very well.  We won't get into regrouping until after the winter break.  The most important reminder for students is to always start with the ones and to make sure when they are writing 2-digit addition problems neatly.  Keeping the ones in one column and the tens in another column will prepare them for more difficult math in the future.    Here are a few pictures of us working with base ten blocks from earlier in the week.

Our literacy program had us explore forces that effect us on Earth.  We learned a lot about gravity this week.  Students should be able to explain to you what gravity is and how we can feel its forces here on earth.

We wrote opinion pieces about the perfect presents this week.  The students had great  reasons for wanting a special present.  They were so good that I had them put them in their red folders to take home the weekend.  Make sure you read your child's they worked so hard on them!

This will be my last entry before the winter break.  Next week will be a quick day and half.  Don't forget that we have 12:45 dismissal on Tuesday.  I wish you all the best during this Holiday Season!  Have a safe and goo New Year too!
