Place Value!

We started a new unit in math all about place value.  For the next several weeks you will see the class work and homework will have to do with this very important skill.  Place value can be a difficult concept for many, this is a fundamental skill needed so that we can move onto more complex addition and subtraction skills.  On Wednesday groups of students worked together to count place value blocks.  It was interesting to her the conversations that the groups had while they figured out how to count the blocks.  Here are a few pictures from this activity.

Today was a game day.  We played 2 different place value games.  Here are a few pictures from these games.

In Literacy we read stories about animals and how they survive in the wild.  The students enjoyed these stories.  We worked on making predictions and identifying the begginning, middle and end of stories.  In writing this week we worked on writing clues about our Halloween costumes.  We really focused on using a topic sentence, details, and clincher sentence.  Here is the classroom booklet that we made.  This was a fun activity that the students enjoyed.
The highlite of our week was Science.  We made Twirly Birds and other twirlers.  The students loved going outside to see how these twirlers spin.  Have a wonderful weekend!
