Animal Habitats

Our essential question this week was "What are features of different animal habitats?".  We read about coral reefs, prairie dogs and sea turtles.  The students loved learning about all of these animals and their habitats.  Since sea turtles were apart of our literacy this week we decided to research and begin to write our first reports of the year on the sea turtle.  Students were given this graphic organizer. (oops I forgot to turn it.)
They used this organizer as I read about the sea turtles.  We read one book together and took notes and then they had to listen and try to take notes on their own.  I'm curious to see how their reports come out, we will continue to work on them through part of next week.
In math we have been working on skip counting by 5, 10, and 100.  Several students need to practice.  Students need to skip count up and backwards.  Start with a number like 245 counnt up by 5's, 10's, or 100.  Or start with a 3 digit number and have them count backwards.  This seems like such a simple skill for us, but it can be hard for some children.  I appreciate any help you can give your child.

We had the CAPS program this week in class.  Students learned what bullying is and strategies to stop it.  It was a wonderful presentation and I encourage you to have a conversation with your child about this program.  Their motto is to be safe, strong, and free.

Next week we begin conferences.  Thursday and Friday are early dismissal days.  I look forward to meeting with you all in the next week or two.  Have a wonderful weekend!
