What do we love about animals?

In Literacy this week we read poems about animals.  We looked for key details in these poems.  Students had to identify what the poet liked about the animal their poem was about.  We also looked at  words with multiple meanings, in isolation students can easily give me more then one meaning of a word.  However when asked to identify if a word is used the same way in two separate sentences is bit harder.  We will continue to work on this skill.  Student's also explored possessive nouns this week.  Our spelling words are starting to get a little more difficult, several students had a hard time with this weeks spelling test.  Please try to review words with your child during the week prior to the Friday test.

In math we continue to learn mental math strategies for subtraction.  Some methods are more difficult then others, but I'm pleased with how well in general the class is progressing with subtraction.  We will finish Topic 5 up next week with an assessment on Wednesday.  I'm extremely happy with the growth I see in students addition and subtraction timed facts, all the practice is paying off.

In Science, students continue to work with Mrs. Wells on the Golden Lion Tamrin and water conservation project.  This week they started to make posters for the project.

In Social Studies, we continue to learn about holidays around the world.  Buddy our elf brought us back information about Germany and Italy this week.  We learned about La Befana, a good witch who along with Santa delivers gifts to good boys and girls.  We learned about the tradition of the Christmas tree in Germany and made our own trees.  Here are a few pictures of our projects from the week.

We also did an elf glyph project this week.  These are so much fun! If you are in the building stop by and take a look at these silly elves!

Have a wonderful weekend!
