Polar Bears

Students researched and wrote reports on Polar Bears this week.  We used a variety of sources including books, websites, and videos to gather our information.  Students used a graphic organizer to take notes and arrange their information.  While working on writing their reports we revisited how to combine sentences and using a variety of words to start sentences.  Students also focused on writing a unique opening and sharing how they feel as their closing sentences.   These reports are fantastic, they really worked hard and learn a lot in the process about polar bears.
In math we finished up topic 5 and took our assessment.  We started topic 6 and will continue with that next week.  Topic 6 will continue to teach subtraction strategies.  Students continue to improve with their facts, I'm very pleased with the growth they have shown.  Thanks for all your help!

In Social Studies our friendly classroom elf Buddy traveled to Holland and England.  She brought us some great information about Christmas traditions in those countries.  In Holland children put out a wooden shoe on Dec. 6 and they are filled with treats.  In England a yule log is very popular and Father Christmas visits Christmas Eve night.  Her are a few pictures of the crafts we made this week.

Mrs. Wells continues to work with students on their Golden Lion Tamrin and water conservation project along with the zoo.  This week students worked on making a video that all classes in the school will see, we are asking for their help in this project.  Mrs. Selby helped Mrs. Wells by using a green screen so that they could put pictures of the Golden Lion Tamrin behind the students as they spoke.  This is a really cool project.

Have a great weekend!
