How do the earths forces affect us?

Happy New Year!! I hope you all had a nice holiday!    This week we hoped back into our normal routine.  Our essential question for the week was 'How do the earth's forces affect us?'.  We learned a lot about gravity and friction.  Ask you child about gravity, they should be able to tell you about the affect it has on us here on earth.  We focused on finding clues to the author's purpose for writing the pieces of text that we read.

In writing we are starting a new unit on informational writing.  We started the week by looking at non-fiction text and discussing some of the features within those texts.  Students worked in groups to look through baskets of book and identify text features.  We then brainstormed topics that we felt that we already have a lot of knowledge about, and choose one of those as a topic for our first information writing piece.  Today we researched on our chrome books to gather information for our informational writing.

We continued to work on subtracting skills in math.  Students learned how to use addition to check their subtraction.  We will have finish up this topic next week and take the assessment.  One of our days will be a review day before the assessment next week.

Students will also take their next round of MAP testing next week.  We are going to use the chrome books for this round, this will help them get use to using chrome books for testing.

In Social Studies we are working on map skills.  This week we learned about map grids and coordinates.

Have a wonderful weekened!
