Contraction Surgery

Wednesday was very exciting!!  Students entered our special "operating room" and become medical students.  They witnessed the surgery of words performed by Dr. Wells and Dr. Taylor.  Students were shown how to remove letters in order to make a contraction.  They witnessed 3 surgeries and then had to perform their own surgery on two words that made a contraction.  This was so much fun!  Dr. Wells and Dr. Taylor have been joining us for many years now to teach students about contractions.  Here are a few photos from the surgery.

Our essential question for the week was "What can we see in the sky?"  We read and talked about the stars, moon and soon.  All of the stories we read were fictions pieces in which the characters learn about something in the sky.  We worked on sequencing and identifying the problem in stories.

In math we finished up our unit and took the assessment.  I'll be sending those home on Monday to be signed and returned.  We will start the new unit next week.

In Science students worked on making a video and posters for their water conservation project with Mrs. Wells.  In Social Studies we continued to work on map skills.  We will finish up map next week.

Have a wonderful long weekend!
