Why are rules important?

Our essential question for the week "Why are rules important?" was a great reminder for students, we also delve into the rules of our government.  We discussed our founding fathers and why the Declaration of Independance was written and purpose of our countries Constitution.  In our small reading groups we learned why the government has rules for food, medicine, and even the enviroment.  These topics lead into discussions about the cause and effect of breaking rules and following the rules.

In math we have moved onto measuring.  We will continue with this unit next week.  Today we had some fun outside with a measuring challenge.  Student were paired up with a partner from Mrs. Wells class, students rotated to 4 stations.  Each station had a different activity that students need to do with a cotten puff, for example they each had to flick it off their hand and then measure in feet and yards how far their puff went.

A fun writing activity that we did this week was centered around the book "The Day the Crayons Quit".  We read the book and then students wrote letters from the perspective of a crayon.  They choose a classmate to write a persuasvie letter to about being overused or under used.  The letters are adorable!

In Social Studies we are moving on to learn about service jobs.  Student drew a person doing a job and then had to decide according to a chart we used what type of job it was.

Have a great weekend!
