What do hereos do?

This week we discusses and read about how heroes come in many different forms.  We read biographies this week and each one was about a person who was viewed as a hero in some way. Two of the biographies we read were about people with disabilities and how they became heroes and inspirations to many.  Diana Golden we learn lost a leg because of cancer at a young age.  She loved to ski and was determined to ski again after loosing her leg.  This amazing women changed the world of competitive skiing for people with disabilities.  She proved she could compete against able body skiers and helped change the rules so that disabled people could compete.  Rudy Garcia-Tolson is a paraolympic athlete who had both his legs removed at the age of 5.  He is hero to many and continues to compete in competitions around the world.    Other hero's we read about where Cesear Chavez and Bessie Coleman.

In math we continued to work on subtraction strategies for 3-digit numbers.  We will finish this unit off next week and take the assessment before the spring break.  The test will be on Wednesday.

In writing we are working on persuasive letters.  We have revisited the parts of the letter and this week made a list of things we might like to see change at school or in the community.  Students will write a letter to ask for a change.

This past week or two our classroom has been hit hard with students being sick.  We are working on catching everyone up on any missed work.  Fingers crossed that we have our class back a full strength next week.  I haven't had a full class for over 2 weeks now.  Enjoy the weekend!
