We also talked more about water and its different forms. We watched a water rap and a few short video's on the water cycle. Here is a picture of the water booklets we made this week.
In Social Studies we have been discussing the changes a community can go through. As a wrap up to the chapter the students were put into groups of 4 or 5 and had to work as community leaders to decide what to do with a block of abandoned building in a town. They discussed if the buildings could be "Fixed Up" or "Taken Down". As a group they planned what each building would become and then made a drawing of the renewed street. The was a good opportunity for students to learn how to work with others and be a team player. Here is a picture of each groups street.
We read several stories about Hero's this week. In class we discussed what makes someone a hero. The stories were about different types of hero's. Two of the stories were about people whom lost one or both of their legs and how they become gold winning athlete's. Another story was about Caesar Chavez, he helped migrant farm workers get better pay and working conditions. Another was about Betsy Coleman who was the first female African American women to get a pilots license. She had to travel to France to get this.
A few reminders: Tuesday is Best of Height Night, I hope to see you all. Also Wednesday and Thursday are 12:45 dismissal due to conferences.
