September is Over Already!!!

Can you believe September is just about over, time has really gone fast this month? It has been another busy week here at WHES!  The students are settling into our classroom routines very nicely.  They really enjoy our Daily 5 time, when they get to practice becoming fluent readers.  This week we:
  • Learned how to be a good speaker and a good listener.  This is important for when we share our writing and projects with the class.
  • The kids love making their inspiration books, we are still working on them.  We will continue to have several lessons next week that will focus on how to find inspiration for our writing.
  • We finished discussing Balance in Science and now have moved onto motion, yesterday the students made spinning tops using straws and disks, they had a blast, we will expand on this next week.
  • Today we had a great assembly on safety.  Please discuss with your child what they learned about keeping themselves safe.  You might even want to come up with a safe word, ask them what that means.
  • Next week we will start to work on making connections to our reading.  We are going to read a big book that is about a grandfather and his granddaughter and the stories they share from the past.
  • We have finished up Unit 1 in math, I will probably send home the assessment for you to review and sign on Monday, I need those to come back to school.  Our second unit will focus on addition and subtraction.
 Have a wonderful weekend!!!
