Week Of Respect

It was another busy week here at WHES!  Since it was the week of Respect we really talked a lot about respect and did several activities dealing with Respect, Mrs. Fletcher even talked to us about it in her guidance lesson this week.  Look in your child's book bag this weekend, they have their blue and white journals with letters that they wrote to you in them.  Several times a month we will write letters to you about what we learned in school for the week.  This will give us lots of letter writing practice plus hopefully jog their memories of what they learned.  Here is a little of what we did this week.
  • In Reading we are learning about Text to Self connections.  This is when we think about how we can relate to what we have read.  The text reminds us of something that has happened to us or in our lives.  This will be on going through out the school year.
  • We began to talk about Prefixes this week and how they are added to the beginning of words.
  • In writing we finished making our inspiration books and now we are discussing things that we treasure.  I used an example of  a treasure I have and model a piece of writing about it, today they began to write about their own treasure.  For the next two weeks we will be working on writing BOLD BEGINNINGS, this is one of my favorite writing lessons, I can't wait.
  • In math we are reviewing addition and subtraction and will continue this next week.  Some of us really need practice with subtraction. If you have flash cards at home please practice.
  • Ask you child what a ZOOMER is, we had so much fun with them this week.
Next week their is no school for students on Monday and we have the Fire House visit on Tuesday!  Have a wonderful weekend!
