Can you believe it, 100 days of school have already passed. We celebrated the 100th day this week by writing what we would buy if we had $100. They are so funny to read because kids really think a $100 will buy a lot more than it actually can. The students also made a self portrait of themselves when they are 100 years old. Along with this the students made a bucket list of things they would like to do before they are 100, they have great lists. Keep these and bring them out again in ten years for a great laugh.
We finished up our Folk Tale/ Fairy Tale unit this week. We focused on ready several different versions of Cinderella stories. The kids thought they were all very interesting. To finish this unit we wrote about "If I had a fairy godmother...". Ask your kids about the elements of fairy tales we discussed this a lot this week while we compared all the Cinderella stories.
We read a great book in which punctuation took a vacation. Each child was assigned a punctuation mark and had to write a postcard using that punctuation mark. It's a great lesson on using punctuation correctly.
In math we finished up our fraction unit and took our test on Thursday. Look for the test to come home to be signed sometime next week.
In Social Studies we focused on Black History month and read about several famous African Americans. We read about Jackie Robinson and Jesse Owens. In the next week we will read about several other African Americans.
Have a wonderful weekend!
