I can't believe it is already March! The school year is moving along very quickly! A huge THANK-YOU to Mrs. Moran for making our door look like a leprechaun, he is so cute!
This week we started a reading unit on money and we happen to also be studying good shopping habits in Social Studies. These two units really fit well together. The kids are learning about needs and wants and also how it is important to save money. We have discussed how you can earn interest on your money when you save it in a bank. The students also brainstormed ways that they can earn money. We read a book called Seeds of Fortune, this is a folktale about 3 brothers, 2 of the brothers are greedy and spend their fathers fortune, the third brother works hard to make his own fortune. Ask your child about this story, it has a great moral.
We began a unit on measuring in math this week. We have discussed both the US customary units of measuring and the Metric system as well. There are only a few more lessons left in this unit, it is a quick one. You can expect another assessment soon.
Writing was very exciting this week. We all taste tested 4 types of Hershey Kisses and decided on which was our own personal favorite. The students wrote an opinion piece about their favorite kiss. It was very interesting to see their opinions. We also read a great book called I Wanna Iguana, it is a picture book about a child who writes letters to his mom trying to convince her that we should have an Iguana as a pet. So we organized our thoughts about a pet we would each like and the students each wrote a letter trying to convince you of a pet they would like. You will get a laugh out of some of them, they are not all realistic pets. Someone wants a monkey and their is also a student that wants a hedgehog as a pet.
Today we wrote about finding a pot of gold and what we would do with the gold we found. We made black pots and hung streamers from them to decorate the room for March.
I am happy to inform you that we have earned another compliment party. Today we watched a Dr. Seuss video with a popcorn and juice treat! Great job!
Have a super weekend!!!
