Another fun book we read was Horton Hatches an Egg, this is about a friendly elephant who helps a bird by sitting on her egg. Horton sits for many days on the egg while the bird flies south for vacation. This got us wondering who should get the egg when it hatches, Horton or Mazy Bird? We wrote letters to Dr. Seuss telling him who we think deserves the egg and the reasons why.
In reading and social studies we have continued to learn about what it means to be a good shopper and why saving money is important too. The big book Seeds of Fortune that we have been reading is a great example of what happens when you are wise with your money and when you are not wise. We looked into the cause and effect of making good decisions with money. We will continue to discuss this theme next week as well.
We continued to discuss units of measuring this week in Unit 9 of math. The students explored capacity and area as well. Thursday and Friday have been all about units of capacity. We made a super hero out of a gallon, 4 quarts, 8 pints and 16 cups. They are so cute. Hopefully the students now understand that 2 cups are equal to a pint. 2 pints are equal to a quart. 4 quarts are equal to a gallon. Next week will take the Unit 9 test and move onto Unit 10 in which we will revisit of money.
Have a great weekend!!
