Christmas Around the World!

This week our elf Buddy left a top secret envelope for us to open on Monday. Apparently Santa spilled hot cocoa on his laptop and lost important files about how Christmas is celebrated throughout the world.  So we are on a mission to research and find information about how different countries celebrate Christmas.  This week learned that the tradition of having Christmas Tree comes from Germany where they call it a Tannenbaum.  Also Santa is known as Kriss Kringle in Germany.  We made our own Tannenbaums too. On Wednesday the elf left us information about Christmas in Italy. In Italy we learned that Santa is called Baboo Natalie.  Also in Italy a good witch named La Befana leaves gifts for children.  We made our own La Befana's from Italy.  On Thursday Buddy left us information about Christmas in England.  In England Santa is known as Father Christmas.  The tradition of caroling comes from England.  We also learned that a Yule Log is often burned on Christmas Day, we made our own yule logs. Today Buddy took us to Holland.  In Holland St. Nicholas or Sinter Klass visit's on December 6th. ( I hope Santa made it this year.) Children leave wooden shoes by a window and he leaves a present for them.  Christmas Day in Holland is spent in church most of the day.  We are excited to see were Buddy the elf will go next week here are some pictures of our crafts this week.

In Literacy this week we learned about the forces of the earth.  We read about magnets and how they are attracted to certain object and repel other objects.  Also we read about and learned a lot about gravity and Issac Newton.  Ask your  child what they know about about gravity.

This is were we found Buddy this morning.  The kids are excited every morning to see were he might be.
Next week we will continue to learn about Christmas around the world.  In literacy we will explore "What we can see in the sky?"  Have a wonderful weekend.  Fingers crossed that the snow stays away!!!
