Review

So this week was a week of review.  We reviewed many of the skills that we had lessons on in Unit 1 of our Wonders program.  As the homework showed we went back to practicing verb tenses and plural and singular nouns.  I'm very pleased with the responses that students are writing when asked to respond to a piece of reading.  They are doing a fantastic job of restating the question and using text evidence to answer the questions.  The First Grade teachers did a wonderful job of preparing them for this skill.

This week we ventured into writing an opinion piece.  In the spirit of Halloween we wrote our opinion about our favorite Halloween costume.  I modeled using a graphic organizer and then helped students with theirs.  We then used that organizer to help us publish our opinion piece.  They did a good job, they will be hanging in our classroom for a few weeks.  Here is a picture of a few.

As you know we  as a school are exploring the books of  Patricia Polacco.  This week we read one of my favorite Polacco books "When Lightning Comes in a Jar".  All the students were able to make wonderful connections with this book.

We are finishing up our first Math unit and the students will take a unit assessment Tuesday.  Monday will be a day for reviewing skills.  Wednesday we will begin the next unit, which will be about facts.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
