Animal Habitats

Happy Friday!!!

As you know we are in the middle of conferences which means a lot of half days!  Luckily the shorten schedule did not effect our literacy block.  This week we studied the features of different animal habitats.  Our read aloud was about coral reefs and all the creatures that depend on it to survive. An interesting fact we learned is that a coral reef only grows about 1 inch per year and they are very delicate and should not be touched by human hands.  As a group we also read about the prairie dog and sea turtles.  Ask you child about some of the interesting facts they learned about these animal and their habitats.  In small reading groups we read about the eucalyptus tree and all the animals that depend upon it including termites and koala's. To wrap up this week we researched an animal in the computer lab and are now making posters with facts about those animals and their habitats.  Her are a few pictures of these works in progress.

We wrote about turning into a turkey this week.  Some of these stories are very entertaining.  This second grade has a great imagination.  We hope to finish those up today.

In Social Studies this week we continued to discuss land form's and made a poster to finish this chapter up.  Here are a few pictures of the posters they made.

I've enjoyed meeting with you all at conferences and look forward to seeing those parents I have not yet met with.  Don't forget today and Monday - Wednesday are all early dismissal days!  Have a wonderful weekend!
