Polar Bears...

This week students began learning how to take notes when doing research.  As a class we are
researching Polar Bears.  We used this great graphic organizer to help us find important information, here is a picture of it.
I modeled using this organizer while reading a book on Polar Bears.  We did a few together and then after they got the hang of understanding what was important they listened to me read and finished filling out the organizer.  Now we are writing our reports.  We hope to finish those up on Tuesday.

During literacy this week we read several narrative non-fiction pieces of text.  Each piece had to do with how people help out in their communities.  We focused a lot on discussing why an author writes a piece of text, the author's purpose.  We decided that the pieces we read this week were written to inform us about how people can help their community.

In Science we continued to explore the properties of solids.  We experimented with solids that roll and stack.  We will continue to work with the solids next week.

Don't forget that Monday is MLK day and their will not be any school.  Next week we have planned several activities about MLK.  Have a wonderful weekend!
