In Math this week we finished up time and moved on the coins and counting coins. Counting combination of coins is proving to be difficult for several students. It would be a huge help if at home a few times a week you could simply have your child practice counting a handful of change. We teach them to first arrange the coins from the most valuable to the least valuable, this makes it easier to count. Even asking your child from time to time what each coin is and it's value would be a great help. A few kids are having a hard time recognizing which coins are which. We will continue with coins next week too.
We continued to work on poetry this week during writing. I conducted min-lessons on line breaks and hearing the music in poetry. Some students have really taken off and love to write poetry. Other are lets say not feeling it. We've finished our book that we are sending out to be published but there are still a few forms I have not received back. Even if you do not want to purchase a copy of the book please check off "NO" and sign the form. We will not get a copy for the class unless all forms are signed and returned. Thanks for you help with this. Monday is the last day, I need to send the book to be published and all forms must be in the package that I mail to the company. Here is the a pre-view of the cover for our book. Each child designed a cover and Mrs. Well's class voted on the covers. This is our winner!
