In Literacy our essential question for the the week was 'What Do Hero's Do?'. Of course the students automatically think of fire and police officers as hero's but we read about how a hero can be someone that inspires others in many different way. Our read aloud was about a women named Diana Golden who lost one of her legs from cancer and was determined to be a competitive skier. She inspired many disabled people to try things they many not have thought they were capable of doing. We also read about another disabled athlete named Rudy Garcia-Tolson who has no legs and with the use of prosthetic legs he has won gold medals at the paralympic games, completed many triathlons and completed the iron man in Hawaii. Other Hero's we read about this week include Bessie Coleman the first female African American pilot and Caesar Chavez who help migrant workers receive better pay. All of these people were very interesting and gave us a new perspective on hero's.
We started Geometry this week and focused on 2-D shapes next week we will move onto 3-d shapes. We are in the process of making a shape booklet as we learn about each shape.
The kids wrote some very creative stories about aliens this week. We hope to finish those up soon. They did a wonderful job with them. Here is a picture of a finished piece.
Have a wonderful weekend!!!
