This week both literacy and science topics had to do with protecting the earth. We read a story called "The Art Project" in which the characters in the story had to make a project for an art contest out of recycled materials. Of course this lead to discussions about how we can recycle some of the materials in our own classroom. Today as a end of the week project students used our scrape box to make a piece of art. They are looking great. Here are a few works in progress.
In math we focused on 3D shapes this week. This included learning about how many faces and vertices's each has. We also learned that many shapes have angles and corners. The students enjoyed using tracers to make pictures using the geometric shapes that we are studying.
In Social Studies. we discussed and explored the election process. The students voted on an imaginary class leader. Students were instructed to vote for the person that had the same opinion as they do. Each of the candidates had a book title that they liked. Students were able to vote on 3 out of the 5 candidates. We then explored how town leaders and country leaders decide on laws, services, and buildings.
Yesterday we had a great assembly provided by the Home & School and this kids loved it. They learned a lot about reptiles. Ask them about what they learned. Here are a few pictures from that assembly.
Yes those are real live reptiles!!!
Have a wonderful weekend!
