This week our essential question in Literacy was "How do people get along?". Students had to identify in stories how the character learned to work with others. In one story we read this week called "Soccer Friends" one of the character was upset that a new team mate was faster then her, she was the fastest runner on the team. She learned that by working together they made their team better. We continued to explore the character point of view and summarizing this week.
In writing we worked on writing book reviews. We first read a book and then discussed that a good book review should include a summary, an opinion and a recommendation. I modeled writing a book review and then students began to write their own reviews. We are currently adding all of the book reviews to a folder for students to read when looking for a book to read.
We finished up our time and money unit in math this week. Students took the test yesterday, I'll be sending them home next week to be signed and returned. We will be moving onto geometry next week in math.
In Social Studies we are working on exploring how people in communities make changes. This week we made a list of problems that students thought we had at school. Each group was assigned a problem to brainstorm solutions. I was impressed with their ideas.
In Science we saw a power point slide show that helped us to understand the layers of the rain forest. We also looked at a map of the world to see where most of the world tropical rain forest can be found. We will continue to explore the rain forest next week.
Just a few reminders: Tonight is the Ice Cream Social. Next Wednesday is Best of Heights Night 7-8. This is a great opportunity to see all the hard work we did this school year.
Enjoy the weekend!
