How do we use money?

This weeks essential question was about how we use money.  Students read informational text that included how money came to be and why we use money.  Each piece of text had a problem for us to identfy and solutions.  We also worked on summarizing what we read this week.

In writing students wrote to convience me that they are ready for 3rd grade.  They were instructed to give me reasons and examples as to why they feel they are ready to move up to 3rd grade.  I must say they were pretty conviencing. We also wrote about things we would like to do this summer.  Students are currently working on this piece, I hope to have a few pictures to post next week.

In math we have been working with graphs and this week have focused on pictographs.  As a whole class they are doing amazing with this, we'll move on to other types of graphs next week.  We will be taking our final math facts timed test soon.  Please practice at home with your child.  Several have mastered this but many have a hard time focusing on this 7 minute task.  We will practice daily next week to prepare.

We are wrapping up our Social Studies units and we have been discussing how our community is part of a state which is also apart of our country.  We did an activity this week about trading goods from different parts of the country.  Each child represented a different state and something that comes from that state.  They then had to trade goods with other so that they would collect food, clothing and things for their homes.

The students love that we are reading Charlotte's Web they enjoy when we find time to read a chapter each day.  Next week we will explore more facts about farm animals to tie in with the story.

Reminder:  Friday , June 19th is Field Day!!  Please make sure your child dresses appropiatly and has sneakers on for the day.  Applying or sending sunscreen in would be a good idea.  Don't forget a towel, they can be pretty wet after going on the slip and slide.

Have a nice weekend hopefully the sun will come out a little!!
