This week our essential question was "How can people help out in their community?". We read about a women named Debby who grew up in Arizona without electricity in her home. She now works for a solar panel company and helps others in the Native American community to get solar panel to light their homes. It was difficult for us to wrap our head around the fact that their are people today that do not have access to electricity.
We also read a story called "Biblioborro" which is a true story about a man in Colombia who loved books. He read and bought books every chance he had until the books were taking up most of his home. Luis decided to help the villagers in nearby towns by sharing he books.
In math students did a great job with learning regrouping this week. We will continue to practice more regrouping next week and by weeks end the students will have an assessment.
In Social Studies we continued to explore geographic features. We played a fun game in which students had to identified the land forms that we have been studying. Mrs. Wells had two labs this week for students. One was a bouncing lab and the other an absorbency lab. Students really enjoy the science labs and are learning lots of great things about the properties of matter.
In write we read "I Wanna Iguana", in this book a boy and his mother write letters back and forth about an Iguana that the boy would like to have as a pet. We used this as a model of persuasive writing. You will soon be receiving letters to persuade you on a pet that your child would like.
Hunker Down and have a relaxing weekend!
