How the weather can affect us?

Our essential question this week was "How can the weather affect us?.  This was a perfect topic considering we all were affected by the blizzard last weekend.  We read and learned about all different types of weather.  Our read aloud was about the 3 main types of clouds.  Ask your child what the names of fair weather clouds and storm clouds are called.  The students loved to learn about tornado's, hurricanes, and thunderstorms too.  We worked on identifying the key details and main idea of these pieces of text.

To go along with the weather theme this week students are researching and working on writing a report for a type of weather.  We have gathered information from books and are now working on writing a rough draft of our report.  We hope to finish the reports next week.

In math we are finished up double digit addition with re-grouping.  The students will have an assessment on this Monday.  Tuesday we will start a new unit.  The next few units will be all about subtraction.  We will gradually work our way up to borrowing.

In Science Mrs. Wells had really fun labs.  Students tested the flexibility of solids.  On Thursday we started to discuss liquids.  Students observed the properties of water and glue.  They compared the two liquids.  It was a little messy but students enjoyed getting hands on.

We are finishing up a geography unit in Social Studies, with the snow day on Monday we are a little behind.  Hopefully that will be wrapped up next week.

Have a great weekend!
