Folktales

We read many folktales this week.  Students learned that folktales often explain how something in nature came to be and they also teach a lesson.  We looked for clues and discussed the theme for each of the stories.  The kids really did a great job, we had some really nice discussions about the theme of these stories.

In honor of Dr. Seuss's Birthday this week we read Oh, the Places You'll Go!.  We used this to help us think about our futures.  Students wrote about what they would like to be when they grown up.  Here are a picture of the finshed product.

Today we started to work on writing about "How to Cath a Leprechaun".  These are really cute and creative.
In Social Studies we have been discussing different enviroments and how to survive in those environments.  Students are currently working in small groups to brainstorm how they will find food, clothing and shelter if left on a tropical island to survive.

In Math we finished up Topic 6 today with an assessment.  We will begin Topic 7 on Monday, these lessons will be mostly about problem solving.

Have a wonderful weekend!
