This week we read about and discussed how people need to work together to get along. We explored the characters in our stories and how their point of view changed from the beginning to the end of the story. Students really seem to have a handle on understand point of view. We also explored the use of idioms in stories and how authors use them to help readers get a good picture in their head. Most students had an easy time of interpreting their meaning, however a few kids are very concrete in their thinking and did not pick up on these silly phrases.
We worked very hard this week on publishing our poems for student treasures. The kids love that they will see their piece in a real published book. If you have not sent back the permission slip I need that in order for our class to receive a free book for the room.
In Social Studies we are finishing up our unit on goods and how they get from production to the consumers. We will have an assessment on this unit next week then move onto community workers.
In math we finished up topic 8 (money & time). The students did pretty well on their test today, I'll send them home on Monday to get signed. We will skip topic 9 since we covered early in the school year and jump into topic 10 on Monday. We are moving into the addition of 3 digit numbers.
In Science Mrs. Wells introduced a unit on Habitats this week. Students are working in small groups to research a habitat and the animals that would be found there. We will continue with this project next week.
Have a great weekend!
