Welcome Back!!

Wow the summer sure did go by quickly!!  I was so excited to meet all of your children this week.  It was a great first week of the school year.  We focused a lot on classroom routines and expectations for the year.  I'm looking forward to really getting into the curriculmn next week.

Wednesday, we started with getting to know some of the morning routines that we will use through out the school year.  We decided together what makes a great student.  Here is a picture of the poster we created.
We also read the book How Full is My Bucket, I love to read this book at the beginning of  the school year! It has such a great message about how to treat others.  After reading this book we made a chart of "Bucket Fillers" and "Bucket Dipper".  The kids had some great ideas.  Students also wrote about how they could fill someones bucket.  Here are a few pictures.

Thursday we read the book The Most Magnificent Thing.  Again this is another book with a great message to start off the school year.  In this book a little girl wants to invent something new.  She has an idea in her head and tries many different ways to make the object that she sees in her mind.  After trying and trying and trying she gets very frustrated.  The character steps away from the project to take a walk and clear her head.  However, she does not give up!  We had a long discussion about effort and how to overcome a difficult task.  We came up with a great list and students then picked 2 ways they could overcome a diffficult task.
I look forward to meeting you all next Thursday evening at Back to School Night!  Stay cool and enjoy the weekend.
