Today we launched our one book one school project for the school year! We had an assembly with the entire school. This year we choose a theme. K-2nd grade will be reading "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" while 3rd-6th will read "The Candy Maker". The author of the "The Candy Maker" is a NJ native and in February the older grades will have the oportunity to meet her at an assembly. Younger students recieved golden ticket book barks and we will read "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" in school after we finish "The Witches". This is great because both books are by the same author and this will give us opportunity to compare the two texts.
In Literacry this week we focused on the care of animals. We learned about different kinds of animal docotors in one piece of reading. Ask you child about the different types of Vets we have discussed. We read about a boy named Jack who owns a horse named Pepper and all the work that he has to do in order to take care of Pepper properly. Another story we read, was about a girl who lived in Africa and became friends with a baby rhino. She helped nurse the baby rhino when she was rescued by an animal conservatory. We looked for important details in all of these stories.
In Math we focused on odd and even numbers. This was a review skill from 1st grade. We also touched on repeated addition and arrays. Next week we will finish up Topic 2 and the class will have their 2nd math assessment next Friday.
In Social Studies students took their first assessment and everyone did a fantastic job!! We will start to discuss how communities are different next week.
REMINDER: No School on MONDAY and TUESDAY!!!!!
Have a wonderful fall weekend!
