Folktales

This week our essential question was "How can we understand nature?" We read several folktales which explained how something in nature came to be.  All the stories were plays, and the children loved having parts to read in a play.  This is a great way to practice fluency, by reading aloud and rereading those same stories more than once.  Folktales teach a lesson and we practiced identify the lesson or theme.

In writing we are continueing to write reviews.  This week we focused on each part of the review.  I gave mini lesson on the four parts: the introduction, background, reasons, and conclusions.  We pulled from past mini lessons on transition words as well.  I'm impressed with their reviews so far. Students will write several reviews over the next few weeks.

Today we took the topic 9 math assessment.  The class did a fantastic job!  The next few weeks we will be delving in to addition and subtraction with 3 digit numbers, fingers crossed that this goes well!!  Practicing math facts at home is really helping all the kids.  I am so pleased to see the growth that they have made on their timed facts, keep practicing at home.

In Social studies we are discussing different types of  environments.  Next week we move on to learning about the types of pollution that can be found in the environment.

Have a wonderful weekend!
